Job description

Petal is a leading Canadian healthcare orchestration and billing company that revolutionizes healthcare systems to make them agile, efficient, and resilient by enabling the forecasting and shaping of world-class healthcare through Healthcare BI, advanced analytics, and informed insights.

Our commitment to fostering an exceptional workplace culture has earned us notable recognitions, including being listed as a Great Place to Work in both the technology and healthcare sectors. Join us in our mission to empower healthcare innovators and improve healthcare differently.

What you can expect when joining the team

As a Software Development Manager, you’ll lead one of Petal’s empowered, multidisciplinary delivery teams composed of developers, technical leads and a quality lead. Your mission is to ensure the team delivers high-quality software efficiently, sustainably and in alignment with business goals.

This role sits at the crossroads of people leadership, delivery management, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll bring clarity, structure, and coaching to your team while partnering with Product Management and Architecture to turn ideas into actionable outcomes. Your strong judgment and technical literacy will allow you to engage meaningfully with engineers and architects, challenge assumptions, and make sound delivery decisions.

You’ll play a key role in evolving the delivery model of one of Canada’s fastest-growing SaaS companies leading a talented, multidisciplinary team, partnering closely with product and architecture leaders to shape solutions that are both technically sound and customer-centric, and driving execution excellence and innovation that make a real impact on the healthcare system.

A day in the life

In your day to day, you will:

  • Lead and support a multidisciplinary delivery team (typically 8–10 people) by setting direction, providing feedback, and fostering accountability.

  • Plan and oversee delivery execution, ensuring that the team has clear objectives, realistic timelines, and effective prioritization of work.

  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Architecture to align on vision, define scope, and ensure solutions meet both functional and technical expectations.

  • Identify and remove delivery blockers, optimizing the team’s workflow, tools, and processes to enable consistent execution.

  • Coach team members on problem-solving, communication, and professional growth, while cultivating a healthy, high-performing team culture.

  • Maintain visibility on quality and performance metrics, ensuring continuous improvement in delivery velocity, product quality, and predictability.

  • Contribute to the evolution of Petal’s delivery model, sharing best practices and lessons learned with peer managers and directors.

  • Bring a point of view: act as a thought partner to Product and Architecture, balancing technical feasibility, customer value and business impact.

  • Proven track record managing end-to-end software delivery in a fast-paced SaaS or product organization.
