Work in the Cloud Infrastructure team: small and technical. Your work is visible, the feedback loop is short, and your ideas get a fair hearing.
Job description
The Cloud Infrastructure team builds the platform that helps Petal’s product teams deploy and run applications safely, reliably, and efficiently. Our work gives developers the tools, templates, pipelines, and visibility they need to ship with confidence.
As a Developer II on this team, you’ll own well-scoped infrastructure work from design to delivery and operation. You’ll collaborate with product engineers to understand what they need from the platform, and with fellow cloud engineers to improve the reliability, security, and developer experience of shared services.
You do not need to have used every tool in our stack. Strong cloud fundamentals, Kubernetes experience, Infrastructure as Code, and curiosity matter more than checking every box.
In your day to day, you will:
Build and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform, OpenTofu, or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.
Help operate Kubernetes environments on Azure, including deployments, Helm releases, secure traffic routing, certificates, and cluster configuration.
Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation so product teams can ship with more speed and less risk.
Contribute to Petal’s internal developer platform, including golden paths, self-service templates, and tooling that makes infrastructure easier for product teams to use.
Support observability, alerting, and incident response for shared services. Over time, once ramped up, you may join the on-call rotation with support from the team, runbooks, and shared incident practices.
Strengthen security patterns across identity, access control, secrets, private networking, and vulnerability scanning.
Work directly with product teams to help them get what they need from the platform without needing to become infrastructure experts.
Write and maintain practical runbooks and operational guides that other engineers can actually use.
Use AI tools thoughtfully for scripting, research, debugging, and documentation, while validating the output and protecting sensitive information.
Participate in design discussions, flag operational risks early, and give useful feedback in code and infrastructure reviews.
Job requirements
Your profile
You have practical cloud experience with at least one major cloud provider such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
You have worked with core cloud concepts such as compute, networking, storage, identity, and secrets.
You have hands-on experience with Terraform, OpenTofu, or a comparable Infrastructure as Code tool.
You have working knowledge of Kubernetes, including deployments, services, namespaces, and basic production troubleshooting.
You are comfortable building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, or automation scripts.
You understand observability basics: metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and how to investigate what is broken.
You communicate clearly, share blockers early, and stay focused when things get complicated.
You are resourceful and curious. You know how to use documentation, teammates, and AI tools to find answers while keeping quality and security in mind.
You do not need to have used every tool in our environment. If your experience is in AWS or GCP, or if you have used similar technologies, we still want to hear from you.
Nice-to-have:
Azure experience, especially AKS, Entra ID, VNet/subnet, RBAC, managed identities, or the Terraform AzureRM provider.
Helm chart management, GitOps workflows, Traefik, cert-manager, or ingress controllers.
Reliability engineering practices such as SLOs, error budgets, incident analysis, or resilience testing.
Infrastructure security scanning tools such as Wiz, Checkov, or Trivy.
Experience in a regulated or compliance-heavy environment.
FinOps or cloud cost awareness, such as tagging, rightsizing, or cost optimization.
GitLab CI experience, including pipelines, environments, or reusable components.

You’ll work at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, developer experience, platform engineering, and responsible AI-assisted development.
We are building, improving, and standardizing. Not everything is already solved, which means there is real room to contribute.
