Role Overview
As IT Director, you will lead a distributed team responsible for supporting Petal’s internal IT operations. Reporting to the VP, IT, Data & Security, you’ll oversee helpdesk services, internal systems and infrastructure, IT Policy and processes, budgeting, vendor management and procurement. You will help to define and execute strategic initiatives that ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of Petal’s internal technology environment.
The role is key to ensuring employees across Canada have secure, reliable access to the tools they need to work ,along with effective and smooth processes for support and procurement. You will be involved with planning and control over headcount and spend in the overall IT budget, providing metrics and reporting to your VP and the Executive.
You will liaise closely with members of the Software Development, Security and Data & AI teams, external vendors and partners to ensure Petal has appropriate compliance with internal IT policy and procedures.
This role is primarily remote, with occasional on-site coordination required for team members based in office.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
Lead and mentor a team of IT specialists across Canada, including people managers.
Foster a culture of responsiveness, empathy, and continuous improvement in service delivery.
Define team priorities, capacity planning, and performance objectives.
Ensure staff are supported in their career goals and aligned with Petal’s values and strategy
Develop an organisational structure which is fit for purpose and able to respond to Petal’s growing needs
Partner with Engineering, Product, HR, Finance, and Legal to align IT operations with business needs.
Process and Policy
Design, develop and manage processes for IT service delivery and measurement of their effectiveness to drive continuous improvement
Design, develop and manage IT policies, communicate them to the organisation and ensure they are followed.
Keep abreast of technology changes that require shifts in policy and procedures and continuously adapt to suit Petal’s evolving needs
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Engineering, Product, HR, Finance, and Legal to align IT operations with business needs.
Participate in delivery planning to ensure timely deployment of solutions.
Represent IT in working groups and strategic initiatives.
Infrastructure & Systems Management
Own maintenance and optimization of internal systems, including device management, network access, and cloud-based tools.
Own and manage physical location infrastructure and local vendor relationships to deliver good employee experiences in a growing number of offices across Canada.
Collaborate with Engineering and Security teams to ensure alignment on infrastructure standards and compliance.
Manage the support of onboarding/offboarding processes and access provisioning across departments.
Vendor Coordination
Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers.
Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to enhance employee experience.
Manage vendor costs, evaluate offerings and keep a flexible portfolio of possible solutions to meet Petal’s evolving needs.
Job requirements
Qualifications
10 years of experience in progressive IT support or infrastructure roles, with at least 2-5 years in a people management capacity.
Strong understanding of helpdesk operations, device management, and cloud-based collaboration tools .
Experience supporting remote teams and managing hybrid work environments.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure is an asset
Professional certifications (e.g., CISSP, CSSLP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, CGEIT) are considered assets.
Working knowledge of ITIL and security frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC2) are considered assets.
