What you can expect when joining the team

As Senior Director of Platform Engineering, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction, development, and management of our developer platform engineering teams. You will lead the evolution and improvement of our platform, ensuring its usability, reliability, and scalability.


This role is vital for the successful delivery of Petal's products and services and has the potential to positively impact the experience of every software developer within the organization. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of success in platform engineering, experience with public cloud, and a deep technical understanding of platform engineering tools and practices, including expertise in migration and adoption strategies.


Your daily life

During the day, you will be led to:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of a long-term engineering strategy for the developer platform, aligning it with the company's broader goals and objectives;
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of our developer platform, prioritizing its usability, reliability, and scalability;
  • Build, guide, and mentor high-performing developer platform engineering teams, emphasizing continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence;
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams such as product management, security, and cloud operations to define, plan, prioritize, and execute a cohesive developer platform roadmap;
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in developer platform engineering, assessing their potential for adoption to enhance our platform and financial optimization;
  • Engage with the developer community to gather feedback, demonstrate empathy, and track their success;
  • Offer technical guidance to the team, drawing on experience with SDLC, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration as Code (CaC), automation and tooling;
  • Ensure team members and managers have the necessary resources and support to excel;
  • Promote skill acquisition and development across the organization through immersive, collaborative, and outcome-oriented engagements with cross-functional teams.

Job requirements

Your profile

Are you a natural leader, known for your ability to drive innovation and scale platform infrastructure? Are you looking for the opportunity to lead a talented team in optimizing our developer platform for future growth? The sky is the limit! If you have:

  • At least 5 years of platform engineering experience in leadership roles, including at the Director level, with demonstrated expertise in migration and adoption strategies within the platform engineering domain;
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience;
  • A strong background in software engineering development and design, with a focus on complex, highly scalable products across various technologies, platforms, and languages;
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub or GitLab and Jenkins;
  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure and public cloud, particularly with Microsoft and its integration with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform;
  • Comprehensive understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes;
  • An understanding of the DevOps lifecycle and practices;
  • Exceptional project management and organizational capabilities;
  • Strong leadership qualities, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to think strategically while also effectively executing tactical plans;
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and practices;
  • Experience working within a globally distributed environment (asset);
  • Since you will be regularly interacting with English-speaking colleagues located outside of Québec, proficiency in both English and French (spoken, written, and read) is preferable.
