What you can expect when joining the team
Reporting to the Senior Director of Platform Engineering, your main role will be to build, support and evolve a platform team motivated to make Petal a world-class software shop. You will leverage your leadership for the benefit of your team to mobilize them in their mission to deliver the best quality services possible.
You will also work very closely with the lead members of the Product teams (Software Development Managers, Team Leads, DevOps Leads, Principal and Staff Developers) to be able to understand their needs, their issues with the current services offered by the Platform and how you can help them. The manager will be responsible for building and maintaining a high performing team and will take ownership of what their team delivers. You will also work as a Product Owner for your team (prioritization, roadmap etc.), with the help of the Platform Principal Developer.
Your daily life
In your day to day, you will be led to:
- Manage a Platform team in the development and delivery of our Platform services, while maintaining a healthy and mobilizing climate;
- Foster and cultivate a team culture that prioritizes the development of members' skills and abilities as the key to success;
- Lead and reinforce company values and culture in day-to-day behaviours, management style and employee expectations;
- Inspire your team members by giving them the means to take ownership of their actions and results;
- Set up performance indicators aligned with corporate objectives and use them to decree positive actions in your teams;
- Set clear goals and expectations for individual contributors and the team as a whole;
- Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to your team and individuals, conducting employee reviews, evaluating performance and helping people grow in their careers;
- In collaboration with the Platform Principal Developer, define the vision for Petal Platform, the priorities and the roadmap to deliver it;
- Lead transformation initiatives within the Technology Vice Presidency by championing DevOps culture and driving the Products/Platform transformation through your efforts and those of your team;
- Collaborate closely with the Platform and Product teams to understand the reality of users and ensure their satisfaction;
- Exercise technical leadership with your teams through your mastery of software engineering, platform design and the software development and support life cycle;
- Push the limits and innovate to have a positive impact on the delivery cycle, quality, schedule or budget;
- Participate in the continuous improvement of internal processes and provide visibility.
Job requirements
Your profile
Are you an experienced Platform Manager, recognized for your ability to face constraints with pragmatism and creativity? Do you stand out for your great interpersonal skills and your positive and solution-oriented approach? The sky is the limit! If you have:
- More than 8 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years in management;
- A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field;
- Strong interpersonal skills, a natural ease in providing feedback and offering quality coaching;
- Demonstrated managerial courage, accompanied by a unifying leadership style;
- The ability to evolve independently in a complex and changing environment;
- Experience with building a Products/Platform culture;
- A solid understanding of DevOps culture;
- A solid understanding of agile methodologies;
- Experience in hiring qualified and diverse talent;
- Since you will be regularly interacting with English-speaking colleagues located outside of Québec, proficiency in both English and French (spoken, written, and read) is preferable.
